Casino Review

Casino is Martin Scorsese’s most graphic and violent movie, but unlike his other Mafia movies it’s not just for shock value. It’s also a faithful depiction of the city of Las Vegas and its past ties to organized crime. It shows how the city allowed people like Ace, Ginger and Nicky to thrive, then spit them out. It’s a movie that demonstrates how big business replaced the old mob, and how that’s made Vegas operate like Disneyland.

The movie is packed with all the energy and pacing that makes Scorsese so good, as well as little touches that feel just right. There’s the way the casinos lack clocks and windows because they want players to lose track of time and stay at the tables longer. There’s the way the restaurant and cash machines are deep within the gaming area, forcing players to walk past slot machines, table games and other temptations multiple times on their journeys. This makes it more difficult for players to make spur-of-the-moment decisions to stop gambling, or at least walk away with some money.

Visiting a casino is a social experience as well as a gambling opportunity. People come from all walks of life to enjoy the ambiance, meet others, celebrate their wins and spend time together. In addition, many casinos offer group packages and special events that can be an even more fun and affordable way to experience the excitement of a casino. Just remember to set a budget and stick to it. It’s easy to get caught up in the atmosphere and spend more than you intended, but when you hit your budget for the night, it’s time to leave – whether you won or lost.
